Tesla shares fell 12% on Tuesday, knocking over $50 billion off the company's valuation

and raising questions about CEO Elon Musk's seeming obsession on Twitter.

The losses compounded a months-long slump. 

Tesla stock has dropped by half since Musk purchased Twitter in late October. 

Since Musk started investing in Twitter in January,

the firm has lost approximately three-quarters of its value.
